Halloween Costumes

Halloween Costumes

I make my own halloween costume every year, and these are three of my favorites!

Sabine

2023

For my sophomore year halloween costume, I decided to make a Sabine Wren (from Star Wars Rebels) costume.

I made the armor pieces out of EVA foam, and made all of the patterns myself out of paper. I attached some parts using elastic, but the neck and chest pieces I attached with velcro and snaps that I sewed onto the undershirt. My dad 3D printed and prepped the helmet, but I painted it along with the rest of the armor.

I cut and styled the wig myself, and got to use my theatre wig prep skills on myself for a change.

Sylvie

2022

In eighth grade I decided to make my own Sylvie (from the Loki TV show) costume.

The main part was making the bodice. I originally planned on patterning it by wrapping myself in plastic and take and then using those pattern pieces to cut out foam, but once I had the basic shape formed out of gaff tape my mom pointed out that it actually looked pretty good just made out of tape. So, instead of buying foam, I made the rest of it out of gaff tape, and some adhesive felt I had lying around for some extra depth.

I patterned and sewed the cape myself, and 3D printed and painted the crown from an online file.

Queen of Hearts

2024

When my friends decided to do an Alice in Wonderland group costume I knew I wanted to be something I could have fun with. I chose to be the Queen of Hearts.

I decided I would layer clothing pieces I already owned and make a bodice out of playing cards.

To get the shape down, I wrapped myself in plastic and tape to get a mold of my torso. I then trimmed it to match the eventual shape of the bodice. To start actually constructing the bodice, I placed the tape form on top of some bubble wrap (for structure), and started glueing the cards together. I used hot glue to attach the cards to each other, and some tape to temporarily stick them to the form. I molded the cards around the bust by getting them a little damp with a wet paper towel, heating them with a hair dryer, and cutting some darts.

For closures, I decided to try my hand at grommets and ribbon for the back, and I glued on some hook and eye closures in the front.

Then I bought a crown, decided to make a bit out of the "off with your heads" line with some fun makeup, and the costume was finished!
