Lightsaber Marker

I made this marker that transforms into a marker as a birthday gift for a friend, who had recently played Percy Jackson in the school musical.

In the book/show, Percy has a pen that transforms into a sword, but there is also a line where he is trying out a sword and another character tells him "it's not a lightsaber," so naturally I had to make a writing utensil that was.

It was initially supposed to have lights inside, but I was unable to get the circuits to fit in the marker body with the materials and time I had. I am, however, planning on making a second iteration with electronics!

The body is just a standard Crayola marker that I emptied out, and the actual lightsaber portion is 3D printed with PLA, from an original CAD design I created on OnShape. The PLA turned out to be too fragile (I had to solder some of the segments back together after they snapped), so the next version will be made out of a stronger filament.
